Understand the evidence before using it.

StrataDelta is designed to explain why a capture or comparison needs review. A review flag is not automatically a failed observation—and it is never an accuracy claim.

“Quality review required”

This means one or more evidence checks crossed the review threshold defined by the active processing recipe. The app does not decide that the observation is accurate or acceptable.

The review is performed by a qualified person designated under your organization’s approved procedure—for example, the responsible survey, geotechnical, engineering, or inspection professional. It is not an Apple review and not an automatic approval by StrataDelta.

Common capture messages

Some frames contain no depth payload

The camera frame was recorded, but ARKit did not provide usable LiDAR depth for that frame. Typical causes include surfaces outside the useful range, reflective or transparent material, poor viewing geometry, motion, temporary tracking degradation, interruption, or device resource limits.

Non-normal tracking

ARKit reported a tracking state other than normal for at least one frame. The estimated camera pose may have been initializing, relocalizing, or temporarily limited.

Low-confidence observations exceeded the trigger

More samples than permitted by the recipe were marked with low depth confidence. This is a review trigger only; it does not quantify positional accuracy.

How to improve a repeat capture

  1. Confirm the device supports LiDAR scene depth and allow camera access.
  2. Use the site-approved stand-off distance and remain in an authorized, stable position.
  3. Move slowly and smoothly; pause if tracking is initializing or limited.
  4. Keep enough visible surface texture and overlap between viewpoints.
  5. Avoid relying on reflective, transparent, wet, or very distant surfaces.
  6. Let an overheated device cool, free storage if warned, and restart the capture after interruptions.
  7. Inspect the quality evidence before accepting, limiting, or rejecting the observation.

Choosing comparison resolution

Enter the spatial cell size approved for the intended comparison, in metres. A smaller number produces smaller cells but does not create additional accuracy or recover missing depth. Resolution should be chosen from capture density, coverage, registration residuals, site geometry, and an independently validated procedure—not from the desire for a more precise-looking result.
